MILESTONES IN OUR FIRST 25 YEARS

From March 1982, The Joint South Calgary Church Committee, with representation from the three existing General Conference churches, meets seven times to explore interest in a new church plant.

  • September 17, 2006: Official opening and dedication of our church building.
  • August 13, 2006: Our first service in our church building
  • April 12-13, 2006: Official celebration of our 25th anniversary
  • August, 2005: Beginning of Erv Wiens’ ministry at Trinity
  • October 24, 2004: Official ground breaking of our church building
  • April 22, 2004: Public hearing on site-specific amendment
  • April 30, 2004: End of Hugo & Doreen Neufeld’s co-pastoral ministry
  • February 12, 2004: Congregation approves purchase of land at DeWinton
  • August 28, 2003: Second rejection of application by MD (still local opposition)
  • June 21-22, 2003: Official celebration of our 20th Anniversary with the theme ‘Rooted and Built Up in Christ’ based on Colossians 2:6-7.
  • August 29, 2002: Rejection of Application by MD (strong local opposition)
  • July 3, 2002: Application for site-specific amendment from MD of Foothills
  • November 3, 2000: Music of Faith, Shannon Patterson & Marilyn Hauser-Hamm.

  • March 15, 2000: Take possession of additional 5.48 acres next to a 10.48 acre lot
  • November 21, 1999: Thanksgiving and Membership Recommitment Service
  • July 28, 1999: Congregation approves purchase of land to West of city limits
  • January 19, 1999: First mention of the Sparrow Group
  • April 26, 1998: Beginning of Hugo & Doreen Neufeld’s co-pastoral ministry

  • Summer of 1996: Student Intern (Kim Brown) joins us

  • September, 1994: Begin to use the Jubilee Sunday School Curriculum
  • April 30-May 2, 1993: Official celebration of our 10th anniversary with the theme ‘Planted by the Stream’ based on Psalm 1:3
  • November 1, 1990: We start Sunday worship in Covenant Christian Reformed Church. b The 100th member accepted into Trinity. (John Wuite)
  • September 23, 1990: Commissioning of Jake Froese as Pastor at Trinity.
  • July 31, 1990: We say goodbye to Bruce, Nonie, and Terrell Wiebe.
  • May 7, 1989: We begin services at Janet Johnstone School
  • February 26, 1989: ‘Rich Man/Poor Man’ Banquet
  • September, 1988: ‘Coffee Plus’ makes its debut
  • September 1, 1987: Beginning of Bruce Wiebe’s ministry at Trinity
  • January 17-18, 1987: Ray and Marilyn Hauser-Hamm are guests
  • October 7, 1986: ‘Guess Who’s Coming for Dinner’ is introduced
  • September 8, 1986: Our first funeral (Bob Kirkpatrick)

  • September 27, 1985: Organizational Meeting for Clubs program
  • September 4, 1984: The letterhead for Trinity’s mail is finalized
  • July 9, 1984: Acceptance as members of Conference of Mennonites in Canada
  • April 28, 1984: First outing of Youth Group to Southland Leisure Center
  • March 9, 1984: Acceptance as members of Conference of Mennonites in Alberta
  • February 12, 1984: Our Cross & Dove symbol is chosen from nine options.
  • February 7, 1984: Letters sent to request membership in General Conference Mennonite Church, Conference of Mennonites in Canada, and Conference of Mennonites in Alberta.
  • February 5, 1984: First child dedication service
  • January 8, 1984: Official transfer of memberships for 39 people
  • December 18, 1983: First Sunday School Christmas Program as part of our morning service
  • December 9, 1983: First Christmas banquet (at Menno Simons Christian School)
  • October 14-16, 1983: First family retreat at Camp Valaqua with Corny Dick as the speaker
  • September 18, 1983: First baptisms
  • September 17, 1983: First baby born into TMC
  • June 19, 1983: First Sunday School Picnic at Doug & Rita Janzen’s
  • May 31, 1983: First official Council Meeting
  • May 29, 1983: Trinity Mennonite Church is chosen as our name
  • March 27, 1983: Accepted as the official starting date of the church
  • May 3, 1983: First official Congregational Meeting (basement of First Mennonite Church)
  • April 10, 1983: First Sunday morning service in the Sam Livingstone School
  • April 5, 1983: Meeting of those interested in attending Calgary IV in the basement of First Mennonite. Volunteers for all functions step forward. The Extension Committee is dissolved.
  • April 3, 1983: (Easter) Sending out services from the home churches (only First & Foothills as The Fellowship had chosen not to participate)
  • March 27, 1983: The service of Commitment where twenty families commit to the new church.
  • March 6, 13, 20 & 27, 1983: Meet as Calgary IV for four Sunday evenings in the Sam Livingstone School
  • January 11, 1983: Approval announced that the Sam Livingstone School has been rented starting March 6
  • November 30, 1982: The committee is now renamed to the Calgary IV Extension Committee and meets another five times to plan the early transition.
  • October 19, 1982: The first mention of Calgary Four in the records
  • September 20, 1982: The concept of ‘Seed Families’ is introduced
